My son made the box below as a school St.Patrick’s Day project – he is 7 years old. Already knows a bit about marketing I guess. No doubt he has learned this from TV.

The box is designed to capture Leprechauns. He figures they will not be able to resist the Glitter, Rainbow and Free Gold. He is right.

The prop reminds me of how many (hate to say this word) Newbies go after the “Free Gold” throwing their money at this and that hoping to “strike it rich online” with the latest “secret”. All the while never implementing what they purchased and have setting right in front of them.

I am watching it unfold tonight – live in a forum. A gentleman is selling a service. He will set up a membership site, actually just a simple script I think, provide hosting and some product to offer potential members… oops gotta go. I will continue this a little later.

Ok I’m back. Anyway newbies were jumping on this. $47 to set up the script $7 a month to host a forum to hold every bodies hand. The seller is a great guy and he will help them get setup with a template of some sort – get the info products uploaded etc.

But who will they promote to? Likely they have no list. maybe they will use adwords – a quick way to lose money if you don’t convert the clicks and they all will probably be selling Make Money Online items though they have never made any themselves.

Next they get discouraged and bail out – money lost. On to the next Holy Grail. If you are just getting started research and learn first – develop the basics of using MS Front Page – FTP - Buying a domain and changing the dns to your hosting. Research your market – the keywords – the demand and the competition. Make a wise decision about where to start. You will save a bundle

A couple of guys from Australia were talking about an IM seminar (make money online course) they attended out of curiosity. Packed house and a bunch of people signed up for some $4,000 course – a giant box full of DVD training videos, a pre-made site etc.

These people had high end pc’s at the house and no clue. Most did not know what ftp was, they thought AOL was the internet and you had to have it for email. You know they will be overwhelmed and fail. What jerks to sell this to them knowing what would happen. They should have been pre-qualified at the least.

If you are new don’t let that happen to you. Go slow – observe – make a wise decision.
